Description
Opposite the Mont-Blanc mountain range, Chamonix is a typical alpine city. Chamonix is both the ideal departure point for many outings and hikes deep into several nature reserves, and also a town with a typical Savoyard centre offering varied activities notably at the sports centre. It never fails to impress lovers of spectacular scenery, and to delight guests seeking a lively resort offering a huge range of sporting and cultural activities.
The resort and surrounding area
• An encounter with nature
The Aiguille du Midi (alt. 3,842m): the outstanding, unspoilt view includes the snowy peaks of the Mont Blanc range and the steep sides of the "aiguilles" or "needles" (accessible by cable car)
"Le Brévent" (alt. 2,526m): with a view across the French side of the Mont Blanc range, and over the Chamonix valley. The "Mer de Glace" glacier (minimum altitude of the glacier: 1,700m.): view from the upper part of the resort over the Montenvers peaks, a well-known site comprising the Mer de Glace glacier, and the amazing obelisk of Le Dru and La Verte. Anyone with a taste for the unusual will certainly enjoy a visit to the ice caves and the "crystal gallery"…
