Description

Villard de Lans is a traditional, lively village spread out on the foothills of the towering 2,285-m Grande Moucherolle, south of Grenoble. This friendly, outdoor-orientated resort is at the gateway to the only rocky mountain range in Vercors Regional Natural Park.

An encounter with nature
Valchevrière Road: an enjoyable little road beneath the fir trees, lined by the Valchevrière stations of the cross dedicated to victims of the fighting in 1944. It offers many getaways to the Bourneet Gorges and Méaudre Valley.

Heritage and Tradition :
The Heritage Centre has exhibits centred around mountain-dwellers’ daily lives: tools, utensils, photos, yokes, a room about bears, etc. Valchevrière: Resistance fighters used this hamlet in the middle of the forest as a camp before it became the scene of fierce fighting in 1944. The hamlet has been preserved as it was, with its bare, charred stones. Sample farm products such as the famous Vercors/Sassenage blue cheese, which has been made here for over 600 years: Espinasses farm, Jalines farm, Perce-Neige farm, Cabrioles goat farm.
