Valmorel is part of the Grand Domaine ski area, an unspoilt and authentic part of the French Savoie region. It includes three resorts, of which Valmorel is the largest. You will have access to 165km of relatively open, quiet runs, including 8 blacks, 17 reds, 38 blues and 22 greens. Many of the runs take you through forest and back down to the village where you can ski right up to your accommodation. As well as the pistes, there is also a snowboard park, 20km of cross-country trails, and some stunning, often untouched, off-piste. The peak of the Cheval Noir mountain is the highest point, at 2832: get there on a heli-skiing trip. Other winter sports include snowshoeing and ice-climbing on frozen waterfalls. Holidays in Valmorel are not just about snow and ice. The village is completely pedestrianised, which makes it very safe for children and adds to the charm of the traditional timber, stone and slate architecture. There are some lively après-ski bars and restaurants serving up local Savoyard and international dishes. If you visit Valmorel in summer, you will be able to explore the mountains in all sorts of ways. Try walking over the mountain trails - choose from gentle strolls and strenuous hikes over flower-meadows, with the snow-capped mountain peaks in the background. Mountain biking and climbing are both favourites with those looking for a bit of adrenalin; or for the opposite - relax in the spa! The choice is yours. We have three residences in Valmorel. The Residence Planchamp et Mottet has good value, one-star apartments for up to six. The Residence Les Chalets de Valmorel is a collection of traditional-style two-star chalets for up to eight spread around the village. And the three-star Residence Althamante de Valeriane has apartments for up to seven, a kids club and sports facilities.
