Get to the green!
Located only a few kilometres from the beaches and the Saint-Raphaël TGV station, this prestigious golf course is situated at the foot of the Estérel massif. Surrounded by pine trees and mountainous landscapes, the course gives players a real sense of serenity and isolation.
Architect Robert Trent Jones Senior used the natural surroundings to his advantage when he designed the course, resulting in rather technical course without having to trek for miles… With its well-tended course, numerous ponds and the famed lac des Dames hole, this establishment is a held in high esteem in the golfing community.
The peace and quiet afforded by this establishment are the best cure for city-related stress, and the restaurant boasts excellent regional cuisine.

Made of Esterel pink sandstone.
The Notre-Dame de la Victoire basilica is a Romanesque-Byzantine style church built at the end of the 19th century. This style of architecture was in fashion at the time, as shown by the Sacré-Cœur basilica in Paris.
Although the outside of the basilica is more in Romanesque style, the inside is richly decorated in the Byzantine style. The vault painting in the choir is undoubtedly reminiscent of the Sainte-Sophie basilica in Constantinople.

Bull fighting and other shows.
The Fréjus arenas date back to the first century AD. During the Gaul and Roman times, the ancient monument was used for nautical games, gladiator fights and predator hunting. The Fréjus arenas, as all the other monuments in the city from the same period, were used as quarries for building materials.
Now, during the summer months, the arenas are used for corridas and concerts.

The haunted tower.
There are mysteries that mark the history of a city. Cannes, like Marseille and Paris, is linked to the destiny of the man in the iron mask.
France's most famous prisoner fled to Cannes after his escape from Fort Marguerite. And more particularly to this twelfth century tower. Recaptured, the prisoner, whose identity remained a mystery, died in the Bastille in 1703. According to legend, his ghost now haunts the tower, since renamed the Tour du Masque.
But the less superstitious can rest assured, this tower owes less to its legend that its fine architecture.

The essential film festival.
The Cannes Film Festival is one of the essential events for the film industry, attended by prestigious directors and actors as well as up-and-coming film professionals who have yet to make their mark. One of the most famous festivals in the world, Cannes was first held after the Second World War, in 1946. Memorable moments from the Festival archives include Roberto Benigni throwing his arms around the members of the jury in a rather exuberant display of joy after winning the Golden Palm for Life is Beautiful in 1998, and Björk's rather unusual choice of gown after her memorable performance in Dancer in the Dark, 2000.
This year, the festival will again sweep us up in the wave of emotions through the work of the year's most brilliant directors.

A prestigious award.
For the first time in 1978, the Cannes Film Festival introduced a new section in the program and the Un Certain Regard prize, which includes about twenty films in the Official Selection. The prize rewards one of these films with financial aid that will assist the winning film's distribution in France, and represents a prestigious award that will bring some publicity.
This section highlights unique and independent cinema, distinguishing itself from the main competition.
The members of the jury have the task of singling out a film and awarding the Un certain Regard prize on the evening prior to the festival's close.

A harmonious style.
Built in the mid 18th century, the church of Sainte-Maxime has been extended and embellished several times.
Before entering the church, admire the harmonious structure which was built from rough stone. The main entrance is built in a successful Neo-Romanesque style with cornices.
Inside, space is shared between a large nave ending in a flat apse and an aisle. Admire the marble high alter. It comes from the White Penitents' chapel in Saint-Tropez.
