Resort Description
Jonzac is the leading spa resort in the Midi Atlantique, and combining the sunniness of the south with the simplicity of life in the Saintonge area. Jonzac is the only modern spa located entirely within a troglodyte environment.
Rowing boat trips: the bridges and banks of the Seugne; finding out about the leather industry of the 17th century; the washing platforms; discovering the wildlife and plants.
Places to visit: Le Cluzelet windmill, with a guided tour by the miller (flour manufactured on site), the 15th century Jonzac Castle and theCarmes Archaeological Museum.
The surrounding area
Jonzac is in the heart of the Pineau des Charente liqueur region: tours of distilleries, liqueur tasting etc. Jonzac also lies at the meeting point of several different areas: 50 km from the Gironde estuary with all its animal and plant life, 50 km from Royan and its beaches, and
30 km from Cognac and La Dordogne.
Places to visit: Lussac (5 km) and its castle overlooking the Seugne valley, with a fine orangery.
Neuvicq (35 km) and the Moulinard mill; La Barde (55 km) and the hamlet of Bonnin, with its half-timbered cob houses dating from the late 15th century / early 16th century.
Pommiers-Moulons (17 km) and the megalithic dolmen on the road to Vibrac.
Chadenac (12 km), the place known as “La Chapelle” and the “Torse de Mercure” (Mercury’s torso, in limestone) from the Gallo-Roman era.
